Peter Bromberg

Assistant Director, South Jersey Regional Library Cooperative

“Creating a webinar presentation is much more challenging than creating a simple face-to-face workshop. The presenter lacks eye contact and body language cues, and finding a way to keep the audience fully engaged and participating is no small feat. I was impressed by how well Jenine crafted her presentations, not only presenting quality information, but constructing the webinars in such a way as to continually engage the participants with questions, polls, and invitations for them to creatively use the drawing/writing features of the webinar software. This suggests to me that Jenine has that rare gift that all good teachers have–the ability to deeply empathize with the experience of others, gain perspective, and use that perspective to design and deliver a lesson that is easily received and absorbed by the student. Needless to say, her evaluations were excellent.”

Joy Millam

Teacher Librarian, Valencia High School

“Jenine is an incredibly gifted librarian. She has worked with immensely diverse youth populations around the country.  She has created numerous noteworthy programs that have garnered national attention and awards. Beyond the awards and accolades lies a talented, hard-working, woman of integrity who puts the kids first. She has a heart for the youth she serves and will step up to help them well beyond the call of duty.

Jenine’s work ethic is astounding. She is genuine, trustworthy, and flexible; her attention to detail is unparalleled. For two years, I worked with Jenine on a Young Adult Library Services Association selection committee. I found her to be highly skilled and dedicated to the task at hand, finding books for teens who do not like to read. Repeatedly Jenine found books that were resounding hits with the diverse populations we serve all over the country. She worked hard and searched for books in out of the way places that would spark interest.

Jenine has a tremendous sense of duty and commitment. She is proactive and works hard to put contingencies in place in order to successfully produce program that teens attend and are interested.  The best librarians are connected to their teens and devoted to creating amazing possibilities to engage them. Jenine truly falls in this category. She is a tremendous librarian with a level of commitment and devotion that is unparalleled. Furthermore, she is fun, friendly, flexible, and unflappable. These are all qualities that Jenine possesses in abundance. I cannot recommend her more highly. She is a true leader. She embodies everything a youth services librarian should be; she is friendly, kind, caring, enthusiastic, talented, hard-working, intelligent, and fun.”

“I took a class from Jenine at the University of Washington. She provided wonderful resources, relevant coursework and brought the “real world” into the classroom for evaluation, application and invaluable experience. Her experience is vast which enabled her students to ask many “what if” questions which she was able to respond to effectively either from personal experience or through the use of her vast resources. Jenine’s passion of building community through information is apparent and infectious!”

“She has and will continue to make significant contributions to youth services librarianship and library management. She is an outstanding educator, librarian and storyteller. Her commitment to the field of youth services in paralleled only by her commitment to the community that she works in.

Jenine Lillian is a progressive librarian of the 21st century. She is one of the best graduate school professors I have had. In her teaching, she gives students real education for the real world of librarianship. Her Public Library Services to Youth and the Art and Techniques of Storytelling courses at the University of Washington were outstanding. She also seamlessly weaves theory with practice. Her classes are creative, fun, and above all else, relevant to the contemporary library world of youth service professionals.”
